During my tenure as Chief of Communications for the State Highway Administration, my staff and I were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to work with FiberPlus during the installation of many of the shared use initiatives for the State of Maryland’s broadband initiatives. Under the contracting authority of the State of Maryland’s Cable & Wiring Contract, FiberPlus played a critical role supporting outside plant communications installations for The SHA Office of Communications, MDOT, the MTA, the MdTA, Baltimore County OIT, Network Maryland, and many other State Agencies.
FiberPlus furnished and installed all types of outside plant fiber optic builds and pathways. Many of these projects were complicated, involving multiple trades and critical schedules. FiberPlus played a crucial role responding to emergency repair requests; in particular, FiberPlus responded to and successfully repaired the communications outages along I-70 near the Frederick County Law Mall. Emergency crews responded within 2 hours and coordinated their work around the heavy construction crews that continued on the interchanges near the Frederick Law Mall during the entire operation.
