The society of Industrial Security Professionals was so impressed with an article entitled “Security Through Biometrics” that appeared in the FiberPlus newsletter that it published the article in their national magazine.
The article traced the progress from the old lock and key solution through combination locks to the modern use of biometrics to control access to restricted areas.
Biometrics is the means of identifying a human being based on tha individual’s unique physical characteristics. fingerprints were an obvious feature to use-a digital scan of an individual’s finger could be compared with the digitized records of fingerprints. As technology evolved, iris recognition was recognized as providing a unique physical characteristic. Then came facial recognition, which made it easier and faster to measure the characteristic.
The article made an interesting recap of the progress and purpose of biometrics for the security professionals.
