Video badge credentials have been around for a while. These credentials feature a facial photo of the holder and are often also combined with access control cards into one security identifier. So what are the key ingredients that comprise a Video Badging solution? These systems are made up of a few different components to bring about a functional, complete system with a whole suite of benefits.
Typically, video badging is made up of a CCTV camera (to capture the facial image), a computer with the right kind of video badging software (badge color, logo and name information) and a photo ID card printer. This allows a video badging system to enhance your access control system as well as give additional information to any security professionals located on site. It’s also typical for the video badge to be printed on an access control proximity card directly which, along with the data already on the card, creates a readable image. Additionally, video badging systems can also capture additional information such as the facial image of a user, which can be stored, used, or even compiled to create information for biometric facial recognition systems.
A Versatile System
Video badging can work for just about any facility that has a diverse range of personnel and needs to control access to specific areas. This includes hospitals, government buildings, schools, and even commercial buildings. If you already have an access control system in place, video badging is the perfect way to complement it. You can’t give your access control card to someone else if it has your photo on it!
Major Benefits
This system essentially allows us to pair visual identification with the credential’s electronic authentication, making for a comprehensive security system. By using custom ID badge templates, you can create dedicated security sectors and better regulate who goes where. If a government facility has an area of the building that only privileged employees should be able to access, it becomes easy to regulate and monitor who is accessing that area.
